What is Armycarpers and how can I join?

The Army Angling Federation Group 8 (Carp) Section was the brainchild of Craig Turner whose vision was to promote Carp Fishing within the British Army. Since those early days Group 8 has grown alongside our sister group Group 9 in Germany and now both sections are averaging over 70 members each year, far more than any other discipline of Army fishing.

Group 8 owes its success and reputation largely to the founder members and also to the hard work of the various committees’ since then. Mark Smith, another founder member was the Secretary for Group 8 for the 5 years and has been instrumental in the success the Group enjoys today. As with all things, time moves on and today we have a new committee with Dave Greenland as our Chairman, Tim Tyler as our Secretary and Paul Kemp as our treasurer. Between the 3 of them they ensure the members best interests are served and to ensure that our mission statement is achieved: “To promote Carp fishing within the British Army through dedicated Qualifying Events and Inter-Service competitions, and to raise the profile of the British Army within the civilian carping community."

The Group fish 5 Qualifying Events (QE’s) amongst ourselves each year with the aim of reaching the top 12 of the leader board. We also have the Inter Corps Carp Championships, Army Carp Championships and 2009 saw the first yearly Inter Service Carp Championships between the Army, Navy and RAF.
