QE 1 (Oct 14) - Nicholls Leisure Complex, Hythe

QE1 was held late in October on the much loved Nicholls Leisure complex in Hythe. This gravel pit is in the region of 55 acres with lakes biggest resident going 40 pound plus. The weather for the time of year was very unseasonable with temperatures reaching 18 degrees over the first day. However, 24 hours into the match the weather had done a 180 degree switch bringing wind and rain. This actually meant the Carp became difficult to catch with some pairs blanking.

Dave Greenland and Alex (Rocky) Rockett managed to draw one of the favoured pegs on the lake known as the bailiffs and if this wasn't enough Derek the main man on the complex kept them fed and brewed during their stay. Fishing was slow, however the second night brought about a few captures. Dave and Rocky had manged to land 4 to 20lb, however not far behind were Rudi Strydom and Andy Thacker. While Rudi had caught a 3lb Carp (nearly a blank), Andy managed to catch one of the lakes larger Commons at a very respectable 29.14lb. Not to be out done by Rudi, Barry Hope in the point swim landed a Carp of 2.10lb. While probably the smallest Carp to be weighed in at a match, it was valuable points on the leaderboard. The group is now taking a winter break from the matches ready for Qualifying Event (QE) 2 in April.
